padding-left
Applies the physical padding-left property, for padding pinned to a fixed, physical viewport edge — such as a safe-area-inset offset on a docked panel.
import { paddingLeft } from "@sdxc/u/size";Quick reference
Every documented call, beside the CSS it emits.
| Call | CSS |
|---|---|
u.paddingLeft(4) | css({ paddingLeft: "calc(var(--ui-spacing, 0.25rem) * 4)" }) |
u.paddingLeft(u.calc(`1.5rem + ${u.env("safe-area-inset-left", "0px")}`)) | css({ paddingLeft: "calc(1.5rem + env(safe-area-inset-left, 0px))" }) |
Examples
Basic example
Use paddingLeft(n) to pad the left edge of an element, whatever the writing direction:
<div mix={[paddingLeft(12), ...]}>
<div mix={[...]}>paddingLeft(12)</div>
</div>Right-to-left text
In right-to-left text paddingLeft() stays on the left, while pis() follows the direction to the start of the line on the right:
<div dir="rtl" mix={[...]}>
<div mix={[paddingLeft(12), ...]}>
<div mix={[...]}>paddingLeft(12)</div>
</div>
<div mix={[pis(12), ...]}>
<div mix={[...]}>pis(12)</div>
</div>
</div>Using a custom value
Every scale argument also takes a raw CSS value, which passes through untouched.
u.paddingLeft("2.75rem")Applying on a state
Wrap the call in a state utility to scope it to one selector.
u.hover(u.paddingLeft(4))Responsive design
Wrap the call in a container query to scope it to one width.
u.at("md", u.paddingLeft(4))Customizing your theme
Customizing spacing
Every numeric step multiplies --ui-spacing, so redefining it rescales every spacing and sizing utility at once:
:root {
--ui-spacing: 0.25rem;
}Every call that names the step now reads the new value:
paddingLeft(4)Signature
u.paddingLeft(value: SpacingValue)
